WHAT WE CAN HELP WITH
Experiences of trauma
If something you have lived through is still affecting you, it may be difficult to talk about it. Counselling can begin with trust, choice and what feels manageable now.
A starting point that feels manageable
You may feel on edge, disconnected or overwhelmed, or find it difficult to trust someone with your experiences. You can begin by talking about how things affect you now.
You do not need to describe an event in detail to start a conversation about support.
What a trauma-informed approach means
It means paying attention to safety, boundaries, choice and pace. Your counsellor can work with you to build trust, hear what feels difficult and agree where to begin.
There should be no pressure to recount experiences before you feel ready. You can ask to pause, raise a concern or discuss what would help you feel more comfortable.
The limits of our support
A trauma-informed approach does not mean that every counsellor provides specialist trauma treatment. Our counselling does not replace specialist treatment, crisis care or intensive mental health support where these are needed.
We will consider suitability and discuss whether the support we can offer meets your needs.
Getting started
You do not have to choose a topic or describe your difficulties perfectly before booking. We can find a counsellor for you, or you can choose a qualified associate counsellor from the directory.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, online across the UK or face to face in Birmingham. Your first appointment is a chance to begin talking and see how it feels to work together.
