Integrative Counselling
What integrative counselling is
Integrative counselling draws on more than one therapeutic approach, allowing the counsellor to adapt their way of working to the individual rather than applying a single model to everyone.
The focus is on understanding you as a whole person, including your experiences, relationships, values, and current circumstances.
What this means for sessions
An integrative counsellor may:
Adapt their style depending on what feels most helpful
Combine reflective listening with gentle exploration of patterns
Pay attention to emotional, relational, and practical aspects of life
This does not mean sessions are complex or technical. The aim is flexibility and responsiveness, not confusion.
Why integration can be useful
People are different, and difficulties arise for different reasons. An integrative approach allows counselling to:
Respond to changing needs over time
Avoid rigid formulas
Stay grounded in the therapeutic relationship
You do not need to understand the theories behind the approach for it to be helpful.
