What If I Cry or Go Blank?
Common worries
Many people worry about becoming emotional in counselling or not knowing what to say. These concerns are very common.
Crying, pausing, or going blank are normal responses when talking about meaningful or difficult experiences.
How counsellors respond
Counsellors are trained to:
Sit calmly with emotion
Allow space without pressure
Support you to slow down or pause
There is no expectation to perform, explain yourself, or continue talking if you need a moment.
If this happens to you
If you cry or go blank:
You are not doing counselling “wrong”
You do not need to apologise
The session can slow down
Counselling moves at your pace.
