Experiencing Anxiety
When anxiety starts to take over
Most people feel anxious at times. Anxiety can help us prepare for challenges or respond to risk. It becomes difficult when worry, tension, or fear feel constant or out of proportion, and begin to affect daily life.
You might notice racing thoughts, a sense of being on edge, physical tension, difficulty sleeping, or feeling unable to relax even when things seem “fine”.
Experiencing anxiety does not mean you are weak or failing. It is often a response to prolonged stress, uncertainty, pressure, or feeling out of control.
How anxiety can affect everyday life
Anxiety may show up as:
Constant worrying or overthinking
Avoiding situations that feel overwhelming
Physical sensations such as a tight chest or stomach
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Irritability or restlessness
Some people experience anxiety on its own; others notice it alongside low mood, stress, or past experiences.
How counselling can help
Counselling offers space to explore anxiety without pressure to “get rid of it”. Instead, you can begin to understand what your anxiety is responding to and how it affects you.
Counselling may help you:
Notice patterns and triggers
Feel safer expressing worries
Develop a kinder relationship with anxious thoughts
Feel more grounded and supported
You do not need to have clear answers to begin.
