Feeling Low or Depressed
When low mood lingers
Feeling low can involve sadness, emptiness, numbness, or a lack of motivation. You may feel withdrawn, self-critical, or disconnected from things that once mattered.
These feelings can develop gradually or follow loss, stress, disappointment, or long periods of pressure.
Feeling low does not always have a clear cause, and that can make it harder to talk about.
Common experiences of low mood
You might notice:
Reduced energy or motivation
Loss of interest or enjoyment
Harsh self-criticism
Difficulty concentrating
Changes in sleep or appetite
Low mood affects people differently, and experiences can fluctuate from day to day.
Finding support
Counselling provides a space to talk openly without being told to “think positively” or explain yourself away.
It can help you:
Make sense of how you are feeling
Explore what may be contributing
Feel less alone with difficult thoughts
Reconnect with yourself and others
You do not need to wait until things feel unbearable to seek support.
