Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

IAPT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy session

Our CBT service is delivered as part of the NHS’s Talking Therapies program and is free for anyone registered with a Birmingham G.P practice

Delivered as both one-to-one and small group sessions Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) aims to change your unhelpful thoughts and behaviours. Your therapist will be more directive than other forms of therapy and you will be asked to complete practical exercises and homework.

Unlike some other talking therapies, CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past. It looks for practical ways to improve your state of mind and helps you identify and challenge any negative thinking patterns and behaviour which may be causing you difficulties.

CBT is an evidence-based treatment for common mental health problems such as:

  • Depression and Anxiety

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Panic Attacks

  • Phobias

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

  • Insomnia
